Small Bites: Laksa & Restaurant Bouchard | West Perth
So I’ve decided to introduce a new category of posts called Small Bites – snippets of text & photos of places I’ve dined at or perhaps things we’ve made a home, which just didn’t make it to their own post. I was inspired by one of my favourite long-time bloggers – graphic designer & online extraordinaire Nubby Twiglet from Portland in the US. She produces a category called The Week in Pictures which is a snapshot of various activities, style outfits, & inspirations from that week. Love her work.
Coconut curry laksa
A hot bowl of thin rice noodles, poached chicken breast shredded into thin slivers, half a boiled egg, handful of bean sprouts, sliced cucumber, squeeze of lime juice & a silky aromatic coconut milk broth. We like to use the Singaporean Prima Taste Laksa paste & sambal chilli
Restaurant Bouchard is a pint-sized gem. Compact menu of six entrees & six mains. I ate things I’ve never tried before, like pigs head. Delightful complimentary brioche & whipped unsalted butter for the table.
Entrées of Braised pigs-head ballotine, black pudding, apple puree, sticky pedro ximenez sauce.
Seared hiramasa kingfish, white anchovy, jamon iberico ham.
Mains of Linley Valley roast pork fillet, confit belly, pickled red cabbage.
Panfried barramundi with puy lentil ragu
Desserts were disappointing though. Crème brulee more akin to pannacotta, overpowering peanut butter ice cream & caramelised banana. Strawberry cannelloni & yoghurt sorbet. Will be back for sure. Sophisticated, polished flavours & fantastic wine list. 3 black puddings out of 5.
